Springing Forward

Another week has passed and I couldn't be happier about it! A good chunk of Southern Ontario got hit with a snow storm this weekend, but already a nice bought of warmer weather is melting it all away ~ I always look forward to that small break between winter and spring where you can really start to feel the summer months inching closer; as though anticipation of it is more exciting than it actually being here. Kind of like the scenario where you just can't wait for tomorrow, but than once it's today, it turns so quickly into yesterday. And dammit, daylight savings doesn't help >__<

Oh well. Here's some more stuff! The nude painting beside is from my Figure Painting class -- we were forced to do full figure, as well as work monochrome, but, for my first semester with live painting, I'm content with that. oil, 24x30".

...And below are some sketches from my new book. I've been planning a series of works based within private/domestic spaces, though you probably won't see the products of such sketches for a long time to come. I feel it'll be a good opportunity for me to start pushing my portraiture into more narrative compositions, and also build on my personal symbolism. From where I'm heading, I think this will end up being the direction I take with my thesis ~

so i understand now.

I couldn’t fall asleep and I was scratching my nose.
I wanted to know!!! Why do I find practice of
painting so problematic with regards to its
place within contemporary “art world”. I
wandered, walked in circles... When
talking to You I felt such
calmness, when You spoke
about Your work. And You
r so good and hard
working.

It helped me find an answer... I think(s)

Art has to be honest to YOURSELF
And that should be top principle.

I like those sketches (domestic places)
since they contain a common concept.
Do You like aquarelle paint, guash maybe???

I think it's always best to consider your personal motives and reasons for painting (or anything, really) and respond to that honestly! Even if it's as simple as "I just love to paint" ~ someone painting their garden just for the enjoyment of it and someone wanting to change the world with their art, are equally valid to me! So long as they understand where they're coming from; otherwise if you act to satisfy someone else you'll never find what you're looking for :P
...And though it's also productive to keep a critical eye and avoid finding "what you're looking for", you'll probably maintain your mental health attempting to keep that in balance, haha.

Anyway, I'm probably rambling, but it's certainly a perspective I'm very passionate about and that I also struggle/d with. Super-stoked that you and I exchanged websites too! I keep on going over and checking your stuff every couple days, haha. Just love how different we are!

I've never used aquarelle - unless you mean though watercolour pencil crayons? Enjoy using Gouache, though I'm not found of it's texture when it drys... Feels a little rough, like construction paper or something ; p
